Armadcoda — ComicShelf

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: May 18, 2026 · Last Updated: May 23, 2026

1. Introduction

ComicShelf ("the App") is developed and operated by Armadcoda ("we," "us," or "our"), based in California, USA. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our iOS application. Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the App.

By creating an account or continuing to use the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. You may also review our Terms of Service.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account Information — When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and optionally a profile photo. If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, Apple provides a private relay address (e.g., xyz@privaterelay.appleid.com) instead of your real email — this relay address is what we store.
  • User Content — Comments and star ratings you submit on comic issues. Comments are visible to all users and are associated with your display name.
  • Collection & Wishlist Data — Comics you add to your personal collection or wishlist, including variant cover selections and purchase dates.
  • Followed Series — Series you choose to follow for your personalized feed and weekly newsletter.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Authentication Data — We use Firebase Authentication to manage sign-in. A temporary anonymous session is created automatically before you sign in. We record the timestamp of your most recent sign-in ("last seen") for account security purposes.
  • Usage Data — Firebase may collect basic usage and crash data (such as app version, device type, and session timestamps) to help us improve the App. We do not use Firebase Analytics for behavioral advertising.
  • Newsletter Preferences — Whether you have opted in to receive the weekly email newsletter.

Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect payment information. All donations are processed externally via Buy Me a Coffee and are subject to their privacy policy.
  • We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
  • We do not use your data for behavioral advertising.
  • We do not collect your precise location.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Sync your collection, wishlist, and followed series across devices
  • Display your comments and ratings to other users
  • Provide a personalized "Mine" feed based on series you follow
  • Send you a welcome email when you first create an account (transactional)
  • Send you a weekly email newsletter summarizing new issues from series you follow — only if you have opted in via Settings
  • Enforce our community standards (Comments Policy) and respond to reports of abuse
  • Improve, maintain, and protect the App

Legal bases for processing (GDPR): We process your data on the basis of (a) contract performance — to provide the services you request; (b) consent — for the newsletter, which you may withdraw at any time in Settings; and (c) legitimate interests — to improve the App and maintain its security.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase (Firestore database and Firebase Storage for profile photos), hosted in the United States. Firebase Storage profile photos are accessible via authenticated download URLs used to display your avatar within the App.

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • Authentication required for all personal data access
  • Firestore security rules that restrict users to accessing only their own data
  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit

While we take reasonable precautions, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@comicshelf.app.

Note on EU data transfers: Your data is stored in the United States. Google LLC, as our data processor, transfers data under Standard Contractual Clauses and participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

6. User-Generated Content

Comments and ratings you submit are visible to all users of the App. Do not include personal or sensitive information in comments. You may delete your own comments at any time within the App.

Important: If you delete your account, your profile data (name, email, photo) is deleted within 30 days. However, comments you have posted remain visible to other users by default, associated with a generic "Deleted User" label. If you would like your comments removed as part of account deletion, please contact us at support@comicshelf.app before or after deleting your account.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Specific retention periods by data type:

  • Account profile (email, name, photo) — Deleted within 30 days of account deletion
  • Collection, wishlist, followed series — Deleted within 30 days of account deletion
  • Comments — Retained unless you request deletion; contact support@comicshelf.app
  • Last-seen timestamp — Deleted with account profile
  • Newsletter preference — Deleted with account profile
  • Moderation records (suspension history, offense count) — May be retained for up to 12 months after account deletion for safety and abuse-prevention purposes

Retention for legal compliance may extend these periods where required by applicable law.

8. Children's Privacy

ComicShelf is rated 17+ on the App Store due to mature comic content. This is a content rating decision, not solely a legal age threshold. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (the threshold set by COPPA). If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly. To request deletion, contact support@comicshelf.app.

9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)

As a California-based company, we comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). California residents have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose — and to receive a copy of that information covering the prior 12 months
  • Delete their personal information (subject to certain exceptions)
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — we do not sell personal information
  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information — we do not use sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to provide the service
  • Non-discrimination for exercising their privacy rights

To exercise these rights, contact us at support@comicshelf.app. We will respond within 45 days. You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf.

10. Your Rights (GDPR and Global)

Regardless of your location, you have the following rights regarding the personal data we hold about you:

  • Right of Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to Rectification — Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten") — Request deletion of your personal data
  • Right to Restrict Processing — Request that we limit how we use your data in certain circumstances
  • Right to Data Portability — Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Right to Object — Object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Right to Withdraw Consent — Withdraw consent at any time (e.g., unsubscribe from the newsletter in Settings)
  • Right to Lodge a Complaint — If you are in the EU/EEA, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@comicshelf.app. We will respond within 30 days (or the applicable legal deadline for your jurisdiction).

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. For significant changes to how we process personal data, we will provide additional notice within the App. Continued use of the App after non-material changes constitutes acceptance; material changes to data processing practices require renewed consent where required by law.
